Alright I’ve dug up some more dirt on possible moves today. First Tim Connolly is a healthy scratch in today’s Toronto Marlies game. The scratch was the choice of coach Dallas Eakins but Kevin McGran believes that Torornto Maple Leafs GM Dave Nonis is looking to find a NHL home for him. In other Leaf news Frazer McLaren was the only absence in Leafs practice today according to Mark Masters. Still no word as to why but I will keep you posted. Nonis has said that there are no deals close yet so it could be nothing.

Mar 30, 2013; Ottawa, ON, CAN; Ottawa Senators goalie Ben Bishop (30) makes a save on a shot from the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first period at Scotiabank Place.
According to Bruce Garrioch the Carolina Hurricanes may be looking to move Jussi Jokinen today. He also said that the Hurricanes are one of six teams that have inquired about Ottawa Senators goalie Ben Bishop. Also among those teams are the Philadelphia Flyers, Edmonton Oilers and Tampa Bay Lightning. The Oilers are unlikely to make a move today according to Darren Dreger unless an an unpredictable offer comes in.

Phoenix Coyotes will need to be offered significant pieces if they are going to move Keith Yandle according to Nick Kypreos. David Pagnotta said that if the Flyers are looking to acquire Yandle it will likely take Sean Couturier plus. Pagnotta also said that the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks have looked into Yandle but no other teams have shown interest.

So the day we have been waiting for is finally upon us and with all the moves made yesterday it has kind of left me with a “now what” kind of feeling. Most of the players surrounded in speculation have been moved but there are still a couple of teams to keep an eye on.

Mar 28, 2013; Toronto, Ontario, CAN; Toronto Maple Leafs center Tyler Bozak (42) celebrates his goal against the Carolina Hurricanes during the first period at the Air Canada Centre. Mandatory Credit: John E. Sokolowski-USA TODAY Sports

Let’s start with the Toronto Maple Leafs. Last night Darren Dreger tweeted that the Leafs will do 1 of 3 things today, 1) trade for Miikka Kiprusoff, 2) trade for Roberto Luongo, or 3) do nothing. Of those three options I’d put my money on the third but Damien Cox did report that the Leafs will be talking with Kiprusoff’s agent today, and there is a 50-50 chance this trade happens. Dreger also said last night that with the Vancouver Canucks acquisition of Derek Roy their needs have changed for Luongo. The Leafs have inquired according to Dreger but they still think the price is too high. Dreger also reported this morning that there has been discussion but no major negotiations surrounding a Tyler Bozak contract extension in Toronto.

There are a couple of names circulating that have just recently come to light on the market. The New York Islander do not seem to be getting anywhere in contract negotiations with Mark Streit but Katie Strang said that he’s been told he will not be dealt. Acccording to Pierre LeBrun Jason Chimera of the Washington Capitals is a new name that could be moved today. LeBrun also reported that the New Jersey Devils have not been talking with David Clarkson about a contract so far.

This is all the news I have so far but I will be watching for more all day and keep you all up-to-date on the happenings. Follow me on twitter (@kcapp22) for real-time updates as well.

The San Jose Sharks have traded Michal Handzus to the Chicago Blackhawks for a 4th round pick in the 2013 draft. It seems as though Handzus’s key contribution to the Blackhawks will be faceoffs because he only has 2 points and is a -9 in 28 games. He has won 55 percent of his faceoffs taken though which would be good for the Blackhawks as they are 18th in the league in faceoffs.

Dec 21, 2011; Dallas, TX, USA; Philadelphia Flyers right wing Harry Zolnierczyk (29) shoots on the Dallas Stars goal during the third period at the American Airlines Center. The Flyers defeated the Stars 4-1. Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

Another trade was made right after this one that had Harry Zolnierczyk going to the Anaheim Ducks and Jay Rosehill going to the Philadelphia Flyers. Zolnierczyk has only played 7 games for the Flyers this season but played 37 games last year getting 3 goals and 3 assists. Rosehill has been playing in the AHL this season but will reportedly be headed straight to the Flyers.

These two seemingly insignificant trades could be a sign of something bigger coming down the line. San Jose has been the center of a lot of speculation specifically about Ryane Clowe. The Flyers were said to be one of the front runners in the race for Clowe. Is getting rid of Handzus making space for a package for Clowe? Is Rosehill part of this package? I’m waiting for tonight’s San Jose game to see if Clowe will be a healthy scratch like Jarome Iginla was in Calgary before he got traded. Though these trades may not make sense to people yet I have a feeling they are about to.
