The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy is awarded yearly to the player with the best sportsmanship and gentlemanly conduct.

<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-8740" title="NHL: Toronto Maple Leafs at Tampa Bay LightningApr 24, 2013; Tampa, FL, USA; Tampa Bay Lightning right wing Martin St. Louis (26) brings the puck into the offensive zone during the third period at Tampa Bay Times Forum. This will be the 5th nomination St. Louis has received for the award since he came into the league in 1998. He recorded 60 points in 48 games for the Tampa Bay Lightning, and had only 14 penalty minutes.

Matt Moulson was named a finalist for the second year in a row. Brian Campbell won the award last year however. Moulson played in 47 games and had only 4 penalty minutes. Moulson had 15 goals and 29 assists this season.

Patrick Kane was also named a finalist for the Lady Byng. Kane skated in 47 games this season and matched his 23 goals he scored last season in 82 games. Kane added 32 assists this season as well. Kane had only 8 penalty minutes on the season.

Martin St. Louis had the best season when it comes to points, but Matt Moulson’s 4 penalty minutes are hard to argue with for me. I think Moulson will be the Lady Byng winner this season. What do you think?

The finalists for the 2013 Ted Lindsay award were announced today by the NHLPA. The Ted Lindsay Award is presented to the most outstanding player voted by the NHLPA. For the 2011-2012 season the winner was Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins. This year’s finalists are Sidney Crosby, Alex Ovechkin and Martin St. Louis.

Despite a jaw injury that had him out for a good chunk of the season, Crosby still managed to tie for third in the league in scoring with 56 points. He was the leader until the last week of the regular season. He had 15 goals and a career best plus/minus rating of +26. He has one this award once before in 2007.

Ovechkin was the leader in goals this year with 32 and is tied with Crosby in points. Ovechkin has won this award three times and is one of only five players in history to do so.

St. Louis was the come from behind winner of the Art Ross Trophy with 60 points this season. The 37-year-old is the oldest person in history to win the award. This isn’t the first time he has won the Art Ross Trophy, he did it in 2004 as well. In that season he also won the Ted Lindsay.

Personally I would like to see St. Louis win as I am a little sick of Crosby and Ovechkin getting all of the attention. Who do you think will win?

17 goals and registered 43 assists to rally a total of 60 points, winning the Art Ross Trophy, finishing three points over teammate Steven Stamkos. He was also 28th in goals this season, and obviously first in assists.

Sadly, St. Louis’ amazing numbers didn’t put the Tampa Bay Lightning into the playoffs. I would have liked to watch them take on the Stanley Cup again. But, it hasn’t ruined his season. At the age of 37, he is the youngest recipient of the Art Ross Trophy. He hasn’t won the trophy since the 2003-04 season with a total of 94 points at the age of 28. This was the year they won the Stanley Cup under Coach John Tortorella.

His career has been filled with great numbers. In his 979 games played, he has scored 340 goals and 572 points playing with two teams. He started with the Calgary Flames. He played two seasons on the Flames. Two years on the Flames, he was sent to the AHL Saint John Flames. When he was added to the Tampa Bay Lightning roster before the 2000-01 season, he had a spark. He only had 40 points, which dropped to 35 the season after. Since his second season as a Bolt he hasn’t registered less than 60 points a season. He has been a strong backbone for the team. Honestly, I wish he would wear the “C” on his chest.

Martin St. Louis is the Underdog of the Week. He has shown this season that age doesn’t matter. He knows what he has accomplished will be looked up to for many years to come. He did real good this season, and I hope he realizes that he is one of the greatest players in the NHL right now over the age of 35. Congrats on the Art Ross Trophy Marty, I hope you do it again next year!
