Alright let’s start this update in the east and make our way over to the west. New Jersey Devils goalie, Martin Brodeur should be ready to start on Thursday according to Rich Chere of the Star-Ledger. He may however be dressing as a back-up.

David Krejci of the Boston Bruins took a shot off the knee on Sunday and his status is still unknown according to Steve Conroy of the Boston Herald. He left the arena with a limp but did not appear to have a brace on.

March 3, 2013; Detroit, MI, USA; Detroit Red Wings defenseman Kyle Quincey (27) during the game against the Chicago Blackhawks at the Joe Louis Arena.
Lots of injury updates coming out of Detroit. According to Ted Kulfan of the Detroit News Kyle Quincey is expected to be out of the Detroit Red Wings line up for 4-6 weeks. Quincey has multiple fractures but there has been no decision yet as to whether or not he will undergo surgery. Ansar Khan of Mlive.com reported that Darren Helm is hoping his injury is only a minor setback and the decision hasn’t been made on whether he will travel with the team to California. Khan also reported that Todd Bertuzzi skated for five minutes last week but didn’t feel good. Bertuzzi is hoping to avoid surgery for his disc issues.

Chicago Blackhawks fans are worried about the condition of Marian Hossa. He left last night’s game after taking a hit in the first period. CSN Chicago’s Tracey Myers reported that Coach Joel Quenneville said that the injury is “not bad, day-to-day”. There should be more news on his condition later today.

The San Jose Sharks have activated Martin Havlat from IR and placed Tim Kennedy on IR according to David Pollack of Mecury News. That’s all for today’s injury updates, keep checking back for more.

After another disappointing loss to the Minnesota Wild, the Detroit Red Wings fall to a 7-6-2 record. This record drops them to ninth place in the Western Conference, not a position they want to stay in. The Red Wings show serious signs of struggle, battling many team injuries that effect their play. Injuries include Pavel Datsyuk (Day-to-Day), Carlo Colaiacovo, Jonas Gustavsson, Darren Helm, Brendan Smith, and a few

Feb 17, 2013; St. Paul, MN, USA; Detroit Red Wings defenseman Niklas Kronwall (55) reacts following the game against the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center.
others. With this being one of their main problems, this means a few players on the ice during the game are AHL players.

Some players from the AHL are Brian Lashoff, Joakim Andersson, Kyle Quincey, and Tomas Tatar. They are young and maybe not ready to play in the NHL. Plus, with having to be there because of the injuries, it could put a heavy weight on their shoulders. Brian Lashoff made a little noise when he joined the Red Wings this season, and Tomas Tatar has made a bit of noise recently. But the newer players aren’t the only ones not pulling their weight on the team.

During a break in my advertising class the other day, a classmate of mine told me one of her concerns. Daniel Cleary. I realized that she was right. He can get a great pass from just about anyone and miss the net, which he can make. He has taken 28 shots this season, only scoring one goal. This is a major problem, because if Cleary isn’t scoring like he does, it will effect the team in a big way.

Another problem is Ian White. He has just one goal and one assist in 10 games. He has taken 12 shots in the 10 games he has played in, and needs to get in on more plays. I always say the defense is the most important part of the game. Not only can they score goals, but they have a chance to stop pucks from going in their own net. Without the defense scoring, it puts a huge dent in the scoring for the team. Bottom line is the defense needs to start scoring.

The Red Wings are struggling right now, which is mainly caused by injuries. The list of injuries seems endless, but they can pull through it somehow. The only reason I’m concerned is because if they keep playing like this, they won’t be in the playoffs, which they have made for the past 20 years. I don’t want to see that streak end

Feb 17, 2013; St. Paul, MN, USA; Detroit Red Wings forward Pavel Datsyuk (13) passes during the second period against the Minnesota Wild at the Xcel Energy Center.
anytime soon, so I hope they can pull their game together and play like the team the hockey world knows they are.

Injuries are piling up across the league and while some are more serious than others, the test will be on for which team’s can soldier on without star players and continue to win games that will help propel them into the playoffs. For others that cannot overcome the loss of key players, the urgency to trade and fill gaps in the lineup could be forced into action in the coming weeks.

With that, here’s the latest on just some of the injuries around the league.

The Winnipeg Jets don’t have a lot of reliable point producers and they just lost their biggest powerplay weapon in Dustin Byfuglien. The all-star blue liner sustained the mysterious injury during their recent three-game road trip that saw the club drop all three contests and the Jets refuse to divulge any information surrounding the injury.

According to the Winnipeg Free Press, the Jets have yet to disclose what it is that’s bothering Byfuglien and instead have him listed as day-to-day. The Jets have said that he will miss his third straight game on Tuesday when the team hosts divisional rival, the Florida Panthers. The team also won’t commit a time as to when Byfuglien might be eligible to return.

The news in Detroit isn’t as positive surrounding forward Darren Helm and his ailing back. The speedy forward isn’t recovering at the pace the Wings had hoped meaning he won’t be returning to the ice anytime soon, according to ESPN.com (insider access required).

Helm told mlive.com that he’s having a scan performed to ensure there is no structural damage anywhere in his back. Helm has played in just one game this season for the Wings after missing the entire training camp.

The Wings are set to have defenseman Ian White back in their lineup tonight when they host the Calgary Flames. White was recovering from a thigh injury according to ESPN.com.

News out of Buffalo doesn’t bode well for Ville Leino who has yet to suit up for the Sabres this season. Leino is battling a hip injury and after head coach Lindy Ruff originally dismissed the idea of having surgery, he’s now hinting that it could be an option for Leino, according to Mike Harrington of the Buffalo News.

Surgery at this time of year with a condensed season would mean Leino would miss the entire 48-game season.
