The Dallas Stars will have a new head coach and GM at the helm when next season starts and to help make the feeling that the organization is off to a fresh, new start, the club is getting set to unveil a new look for the team. A new logo is said to be launched on June 4 at a special fan event, according to the Stars official website. But it appears that the new logo has already been leaked.

<img class="alignright size-medium wp-image-8782" title="NHL: Detroit Red Wings at Dallas Stars Apr 27, 2013; Dallas, TX, USA; Dallas Stars goalie Richard Bachman (31) skates on to the ice to face the Detroit Red Wings at the American Airlines Center. In the article, author Greg Wyshynski has a quote from Stars owner Tom Gaglardi about what he wanted to encompass in the new look for the team, courtesy of Defending Big D.

“What I wanted for this franchise was a logo and a look and a crest that when you look at it has timeless, original-six, vintage, classic qualities to it, and that’s been the theme of what we’ve been pursuing,” Gaglardi told us in January. I then asked if that was to say that he hoped this new jersey would be one that would stick around for the long-haul and he answered simply “Yes.”

The alleged new logo keeps the historic star to it but loses the ties to the Minnesota North Star days that had the star tucked in underneath the ‘A’ in Stars.

While it may be disappointing to some to lose the connection to the Minnesota roots, this organization has developed into a successful, championship winning team since it’s time in Texas and a new look that incorporates some of their own history is important.

Wyshynski notes that the Stars home jerseys will be primarily green with the new look silver, black and green logo. Out is the gold and green and I personally like the new look.

Leave your comments below to let us know what you think of the new Stars uniforms, if in fact this is what they’ll end up being.

For the record, the Stars have missed the playoffs for five straight seasons, four of those under Nieuwendyk’s watchful eye. When he was shown the door and replaced by new GM Jim Nill, Gulutzan clearly didn’t fit into the new plans that Nill has for the Stars.

A once proud franchise, the Stars have struggled to find that high level of competition that made them a force in the Western Conference. A complete housecleaning was needed for an organization that is used to winning and it further reinforces the fact that coaches are hired to be fired.

Once could argue that the epic fail of the Stars lately lays on Nieuwendyk’s shoulders and not Gulutzan. The former playoff MVP went through two coaches in a short span, first Dave Tippett then Gulutzan and he never got the team heading in the right direction despite staying in playoff contention late in the season, only to stumble during crucial times.

Free-agents were brought in and major trades were made this season by Nieuwendyk, signalling that major changes were necessary to right the ship in Dallas. Captain and long-time Star Brendan Morrow was dealt to the Penguins. Derek Roy was sent packing to Vancouver and Jaromir Jagr, who has one year left on his contract was traded to Boston.

But Nieuwendyk won’t be around to see the fruits of his labor and whether or not he made the right decisions. Gulutzan may be the victim of circumstance in this case and maybe Nill wants a blank slate so he can choose his own coach moving forward.

Further failure won’t sit well with the Stars owners meaning Nill will have a short window of opportunity to help get the Stars back to the promised land. Without it, Nieuwendyk won’t be the only calling Big D his former home.

No word yet on who Nill is considering for the vacant job but as the rumors circulate, we’ll keep you covered right here at Too Many Men.

Big changes are coming to Big D. The Dallas Starts have fired GM Joe Nieuwendyk, who was hired by Tom Hicks in 2009. During his short tenure with the Stars, Nieuwendyk made little progress, and was unable to make the Starts a constant playoff team.

Current Starts owner Tom Gaglardi has given Joe the chance to stay with the club. “”I have a lot of admiration and respect for Joe Nieuwendyk, and I told him that,” Gaglardi said.”I offered him an opportunity to stay in the organization in a capacity he would find fitting, and he told me he would think about it.” Nieuendyk is unsure if he wants to stay with the Stars. (Mike Heika Dallasnews.com)

Nieuendyk has made some poor coaching decisions, firing Dave Tippett who went on to be the coach of the year with the Phoenix Coyotes. Joe also passed on Ken Hitchock, who went on to become Coach of the Year with the St. Louis. Blues Nieuwendyk leaves the GM’s office with a younger Dallas roster; but he also has made a mess of the coaching staff. The only area that the Starts are better off on is their power play. One good thing Nieuwendyk is leaving behind is a roster full of good young prospects.

Rumors are already flying about who the Starts will hire as Nieuwendyk’s replacement. One name that keeps coming up is current Detroit Red Wings Assistant GM Jim Nill. Reports out of Detroit say Nill will accept the offer. Nill has been with the Red Wings for nearly two decades.

Adding Nill’s experience may be just what the Stars need to become a playoff contender again. Nill has been a part of four Stanley Cup teams, and has respect from around the leaguee. Once Nill is added the Stars may take on a new attitude.

As for the rest of the Dallas Stars coaching staff? It seems like Nill will have the last say on who stays and who goes. Next year’s Stars will look a lot different from the team that missed the playoffs this year.
