The Los Angeles Kings entered Game 2 with the Phoenix Coyotes last night as the hottest, most-dominant team in the playoffs. Little happened to change any of that. Once the puck was dropped, the Kings size and prowess with the puck proved to be difficult for Phoenix to handle. The star of Game 1, Dwight King, opened the scoring halfway through the first when he tipped home the Drew Doughty point shot for a 1-0 Kings lead. Just four minutes into the second Jeff Carter expanded on that lead with his second of the playoffs, and then things got out of hand for the Coyotes. After Keith Yandle took a roughing penalty, Daymond Langkow took a slashing penalty with just 28 seconds remaining in that first penalty. At the same time though, Shane Doan took a boarding major for a hit on Trevor Lewis. Despite Doan receiving a misconduct on the play, it was a questionable call as many felt Lewis turned into the hit. On the same penalty kill Mike Smith (slashing) and Dustin Brown (diving) took off-setting minors, eventually the Kings’ power play would score, making it 3-0 on Carter’s second of the game. In the third period Martin Hanzal took a boarding major when he ran Dustin Brown into the end boards and Derek Morris took a kneeing penalty, which led to Carter scoring his third of the game. Things would finish with a two 10-minute misconducts and a couple of off-setting roughing penalties being handed out but the Kings’ 4-0 lead remained intact, giving them a 2-0 series lead.
