Philadelphia Flyers forward Brayden Schenn wrecked New Jersey Devils defenseman Anton Volchenkov on Tuesday night, and now Schenn will be facing a disciplinary hearing from Brendan Shanahan, the first of the season.

If Schenn is disciplined, it will be because he left his feet before making the hit on Volchenkov. But did he actually leave his feet before making the hit, or did he leave them after? That’s what Shanahan will have to make a decision on. You can view the video at the end of the post and judge for yourself.

The hit was huge, but it didn’t seem to hurt Volchenkov – he continued to play and the Devils ended up beating the Flyers 3-0. After the hit, Schenn actually continued to get physical with the Devils – he fought Devils forward Steve Bernier with less than a minute left in the game.

Here’s the video of the hit:

Mark Cuban, the owner of the Dallas Mavericks, has voiced his opinion on the NHL lockout per CSNNE.com. Since Cuban went through the NBA lockout in 2011, and since he’s an expert on business stuff, we should probably listen to what he has to say about the NHL lockout.

Cuban basically said that right now, it’s up to the NHL to fix themselves.

“I think [the NHL owners are] smart. You got to fix the problem. I cringed like with what we did. But if you don’t fix the problems, they escalate, so they didn’t fix them the last time, and they should have. So you see where they are now.

“When you have all your southern franchises basically sucking wind, there’s a message there that you have to fix it. I mean, you have two different worlds; the north and the south. It’s kind of like the civil war right now going on, and it’s got to be fixed. So, yeah I’d cringe more as a hockey fan. I’d cringe more if they don’t fix it. Just like the last one, it’s only been like seven years right? But I even wrote a blog back then that they should have fixed it, and they didn’t.”

Cuban was also direct on how he thinks negotiations are going:

“They’re both cluster[expletives]. There’s no good way [to negotiate] because everybody thinks they have a solution in those scenarios and nobody wants to listen to the other guy’s solutions.”

If you missed it, Wednesday’s NHL and NHLPA talks went nowhere, yet again. Just as Jamal Meyers of the Chicago Blackhawks said, it’s extremely frustrating to know that the NHL’s close yet far away on an agreement. Thanks to the lockout, things such as Britney Spears buying the house of ex-NHL-er Russ Courtnall can pass as NHL-relevant content.

Breaking news: at some point in the near future, the Phoenix Coyotes will probably change their name to the Arizona Coyotes, according to the Phoenix New Times. Mike Nealy, the president and COO of the Yotes, told XTRA Sports 910 that there’s a “high probability” that the name-change will happen pretty soon, and if not, then it’ll probably happen next year, when the NHL should have all of their crap straightened out and settled.

It’s about time that they change their name. Despite the Coyotes being located in Glendale, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, the area’s NFL and MLB teams, the Arizona Cardinals and Arizona Diamondbacks, respectively, use the state’s name rather than a specific city’s. Plus, don’t you think that the Glendale Coyotes just sounds a bit odd? Certainly does to me.

Anyway, the report in the Phoenix New Times also says that the Coyotes will use the phrase “We’re here to stay” as a marketing-type-thing. I guess it signifies that although they’re changing the name of the team, they won’t be relocated, as many of us thought they eventually would be.
