Detroit Red Wings Acquire Unsigned 2014 Prospect Dylan Sadowy From San Jose Sharks for 2017 3rd Round Pick
Announced Thursday, the Detroit Red Wings have acquired 2014 3rd round unsigned prospect Dylan Sadowy from the San Jose Sharks.
Reported via the Detroit Free Press, in exchange the Wings gave up a third round pick in 2017.
With the June 1st deadline looming to sign 2014 North American prospects before they re-enter the draft (if they still meet age requirements), Dylan Sadowy seemed destined to join the likes of Conner Bleackley as the lone re-entries worth an early look.

“We like his competitiveness and his grit,” Wings assistant general manager Ryan Martin told the Free Press after Thursday’s transaction. “He’s one of those heart-and-soul players, blocks shots, go to the hard areas. Goes to the front of the net, the hard places to score at the NHL level.
“He can play in all situations, is very versatile, but what stands out the most is his competitiveness and grit.”

A player that Detroit Red Wings scouts are familiar with, Sadowy played much of his OHL career with the Saginaw Spirit.
He was traded later in 2015-16, joining the Barrie Colts helping them on their Eastern Conference Final appearance.
In three and a half years with Saginaw, Dylan Sadowy collected 152 points in 230 regular season games.
He had 34 points in 36 games with Saginaw prior to the trade in 2015-16. Sadowy recorded 36 points over the final 28 games with Barrie.
Dylan missed some time during the postseason, but still managed five points in eight games.

Kris Draper, a special assistant to general manager Ken Holland, along with Jiri Fischer, the director of player personnel, plus amateur scout Kelly Harper were among those who’d kept an eye on Sadowy.
“We’ve seen him play quite a bit, and like him,” Ryan Martin said. “We’re pretty excited to get him. We like a lot of what he has to offer.
Ryan Martin told Helene St.James of Detroit Free Press that the team anticipates having Dylan Sadowy signed to his entry-level contract very soon, as an agreement is reportedly already in place.
The Detroit Red Wings are entering a transitional period where it looks as though they’ll lose the face of the franchise, Pavel Datsyuk. With veteran Henrik Zetterberg also on the back nine of his career, the leadership group in Hockey Town should begin shifting to the younger core players in coming years.

Does Dylan Sadowy have top-six potential? He sure has the talent, and the skill-set, but then again numerous prospects share the same attributes and fail to make it at the NHL level.
Whether he develops into that top-six player, or assumes a secondary bottom-six scoring role, this is a great trade for the Detroit Red Wings. They only sacrifice a third rounder in 2017 – which if Ken Holland wants, can be replaced over the next 12 months.
