New York Rangers D Keith Yandle: NHL Trade Deadline Profile

New York Rangers D Keith Yandle was originally selected by Arizona (Phoenix) 105th overall (4th round) back in 2005. The Massachusetts High School draft pick joined QMJHL’s Moncton Wildcats the following year, producing 84 points in 66 games.

Yandle made his NHL debut back in 2006-07, appearing in seven games (two assists). He spent the better half of the next eight seasons in the Coyotes organization. Over that period, Keith Yandle was able to establish himself as a top-tier blueliner in the NHL.

He had a single season career-high of 59 points in 2010-11. Yandle also topped 50 points in both 2013-14 and 2014-15. Over 640 career NHL games, Yandle has 356 points.

UPDATE: Reports are now suggesting that Keith Yandle is unlikely to be traded.

via Sportsnet,

Yandle’s acquisition cost the Rangers winger Anthony Duclair and this year’s first rounder (lottery protected) or next year’s (unprotected), and there is that mindset that says Gorton simply can’t let him walk away as a UFA after paying so much to get him.

The hockey community is largely split on whether or not New York should trade Keith Yandle, or sign him to a new contract.

via Rant Sports,

If the New York Rangers wish to make any semblance of a playoff run this season, they need Keith Yandle.

Here’s another truth: if the Rangers want to solidify their defensive corps and power play for years to come, they need Keith Yandle.

Yandle, an impending unrestricted free agent this offseason, has been the subject of a lifetime’s worth of trade rumors this season. The Rangers have a well-documented tight salary cap situation, and questions of whether or not the Rangers will be able to afford him are founded.

New York Rangers D Keith Yandle is an elite, mobile puck-moving defensemen who can help generate a ton of offense from the back-end. As with any offensive defender, there are short-comings on the defensive side at times. As long as the offense being generated outweighs what’s being given up, that’s all that matters.

New York Rangers D Keith Yandle is carrying an annual cap hit of $2.625 million dollars, which is set to expire at the end of the season.
