Arizona Coyotes F Mikkel Boedker: NHL Trade Deadline Profile

Arizona Coyotes F Mikkel Boedker was selected 8th overall back in 2008 from OHL’s Kitchener Rangers. The highly touted Danish-born skater was a standout for Denmark on the International stage.

He joined Arizona (Phoenix) as an 18-year-old in 2008-09, posting 28 points in 78 games as a rookie.

Falling victim to the sophomore slump, Boedker was eventually demoted to AHL San Antonio in 2009-10. He produced 38 points in 64 AHL games in a season met with slow development. It continued into the next season before his game eventually took off in 2010-11. After putting up 34 points in 36 games, the Coyotes called for his services. He finished the NHL season with 14 points in 34 games.

More from Arizona Coyotes

Appearing in all 82 games in 2011-12, Mikkel Boedker underwhelmed with 11 goals, 13 assists (24 points). During the 2012-13 NHL lock-out, Boedker took his talents overseas to join Lukko Rauma of Finland’s SM-Liiga. He had 33 points in 29 games with them, and apparently found something in his game. Upon return to North America, Boedker put up 26 points in 48 games during the lock-out shortened season.

2013-14 marked his best season, recording 19 goals, 31 assists (51 points) in 82 games. He scored at a similar pace in 2014-15, but missed time due to injury. He had 28 points in 45 games last year.

With 38 points in 61 games so far in 2015-16, Boedker is on pace for 51 points (if he appears in 21 more games), matching his career-high.

TSN Hockey Insider Pierre LeBrun, joined by ESPN’s Scott Burnside, Craig Custance and Joe McDonald, writes in Friday’s Morning 3-on-3 on ESPN.com that with the trade of Andrew Ladd, the domino effect should be in play, leading to more activity in the trade market.

LeBrun says that this news should be particularly good for the Arizona Coyotes who are trying to move pending UFA forward Mikkel Boedker and now could see him become a target of teams that were trying to acquire Ladd.

According to TSN Hockey Insider Darren Dreger, it’s believed the Coyotes have “backed off a previously tabled offer,” making him more likely to be traded by Monday’s deadline.

Boedker is currently playing on a one-year, $3.75 million contract and is set to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

His value has been estimated as a first-round pick heading back to the Coyotes in a deal.

Boedker has scored 80 goals and 212 points across 441 career games with the Coyotes since being selected eighth overall in the 2008 NHL Draft.
