New York Rangers Rumors: Cam Talbot On His Way Out

Cam Talbot showed he can carry a team and now he is part of New York Rangers rumors. Talbot better known as Henrik Lundqvist‘s back up has stepped out of the shadow and is creating a fair amount of buzz throughout NHL offices. There are reports that as many as six NHL teams are interested in a trade for Talbot. With one year left on his current contract any team that makes a deal for Talbot will need to work on resigning him fairly quickly. The nice part of the deal is Talbot is only owed $1.45 million.

seems the same as every other solid goaltender’s possible landing spots ( Buffalo Sabres, San Jose Sharks, Dallas Stars, Florida Panthers and Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oilers). All of these teams need some help in net. I’d argue that the Flames may need a little less than the rest, but adding Talbot could be just enough to push Calgary to the next level.

If we break down the suggested teams with interest it become clear that Buffalo and San Jose may be strong contenders. The Sabres are trying to shake the joke of the NHL title they have earned over the past two years, and the Sharks are attempting to stabilize what some may consider a sinking ship. Edmonton is interesting, but I’m not sure they would be willing to give up much in the way of draft picks.

For Talbot being the center of New York Rangers rumors must be exciting and nerve racking. Once a deal is done he no longer has anyone to hid behind and his career will become very interesting to watch. His regular season career numbers make me think he has starting goaltender talent, but the sample size of 55 games is small. Over his brief NHL career Talbot has put up a record of 33-15-5 with a save percentage of .931 and a GAA of 2.00.

When you look at the NHL Draft order and see what teams have the picks to move Buffalo once again has the edge, but would the Rangers want to keep Talbot in the East?
