Connor McDavid Goes To Edmonton: Will Set Oilers On Fire

Connor McDavid will become a member of the Edmonton Oilers on June 26th of this year. Once that happens the Oilers will have the offensive fire power to set the NHL on fire, and turn some heads. While the McDavid will bring more flash to an already loaded offense Edmonton will still need to address the blueline. projected super star. McDavid has long been deemed the second coming in hockey circles, and his offensive talents are unmatched in the coming NHL Draft or really any draft that we have seen over the past ten years or so.

The Oilers will have a player that averaged 1.72 points per game during his career in the OHL. Connor McDavid’s stat line is something out of hockey dreams. The 18-year-old played in 166 games with the Erie Otters and scored 97 goals along with 188 helpers. As if that is not enough McDavid registered 2.71 points per playoff game. This kid can score, and now he will have the added pressure of being a kid in the NHL.

For Edmonton this is a chance to once again capture hockey glory; something that has eluded them for 15 years. If the Oilers want to once again become NHL elite it will all start on June 26 with Connor McDavid. One good thing for Edmonton is that the expected salary for McDavid will be the NHL max for rookies $832,500 per year with an expected $92,000 signing bonus of $92,000. McDavid will most likely have the chance to earn an additional $2.85 million in performance based bonuses.

One concern I have about Connor McDavid joining the Oilers is who will teach him to become an NHL professional, and I’m not talking about on the ice. A solid choice may be resigning Derek Roy. But, if that doesn’t happen I think we are looking at McDavid learning from coaching. Edmonton is a young team that needs some older veteran leadership, and I’m sure that will be addressed.
