Malcolm Subban had been expecting a call to the next level, he just didn’t know when. Subban received the call in the middle of the Bruins west coast road trip, three days ago when the Bruins were set to face the Oilers in Edmonton. Tuukka Rask started in 24 of the last 25 games. The Black and Gold would go onto come from behind, rallying back from a 3-1 deficit in the second period before they eventually lost in the 12th round of a shootout. This was how Malcolm began his second stint with the Bruins: with a loss.

Malcolm Subban sat on the Boston bench patiently and watched onwards, wondering when his first start would come. The younger brother of Montreal’s star, PK has been surrounded and dreaming of playing in the NHL for his entire life.

The decision was made earlier today.

Claude Julien announced to the media following morning skate that Subban would get the start in between the pipes on Friday night against the incredibly talented St. Louis Blues.

The Blues currently are the second best team in the Western Conference. The Blues as a team have a goal differential of +40. Not only that but the Blues have a 21-6-2 record at their home rink. Oh and of course they’ve happened to have gone 7-3 in their last 10 games. It’s safe to say that the Blues are on a hot streak.

It’s sure to be a challenge for the inexperienced Boston youngster who is prepping to make his NHL debut. Nerves are sure to be pumping through his system. The feeling is unlike any other.

The opportunity for the goalie is huge to get a chance for the second time this season with the Bruins. But, getting a start is even bigger. Subban’s first call up began on January 30th of this year, and he was sent back down to the AHL with the Providence Bruins on February 9th.

Malcolm Subban didn’t get to even step foot on the ice during any of the games. He merely sat on the bench as a witness, taking all the action in and waiting patiently. After he was sent back down on February 9th, Svedberg was once again called up to the club however his performance was not very impressive in his lone start.

This season Subban has found success in Providence. He’s seen action in 24 games and has a 10-10-3 record. His save percentage with the Providence Bruins is 0.920% for his second season in professional hockey. Not too shabby, Malcolm.

In addition to Subban making his debut, the Bruins also recalled Brian Ferlin after Kevan Miller was placed on the injured reserve list this past week. Ferlin is primed to make his NHL debut tonight as well.

It will be interesting to see the two youngsters in action and get a glimpse at some of Providence’s deep level of talent tonight. The Bruins look to hopefully get a win after a very rough stretch. The Bruins have been seen as quite the up and down team this season. After a very solid January, they’re once again back into a slumping February. This month never seems to end. Unable to get wins and with very few answers due to the lackluster play, Malcolm Subban will look to be used in order to help the club and hopes to secure a win against the Blues tonight.
