NHL Channel Surfing: October 11th Edition

15 NHL games on the schedule tonight, marking the sixth time in NHL history that all 30 teams are in play on the same night!

• The Washington Capitals expect to have defenseman Mike Green back in the lineup tonight, after his missed the season opener with an upper-body injury. The Boston Bruins dodged a bullet themselves, when Milan Lucic‘s stick hit Zdeno Chara near his right eye during drills. Chara fell to the ice, but was able to continue practice. [NHL.com]

• “Kadri is a f–king joke!” – that’s what Sidney Crosby had to say to Toronto Maple Leafs captain Dion Phaneuf during a game last season, captured on HBO’s 24/7. Kadri decided to take it as a compliment, as it meant he succeeded in getting under the Penguins star’s skin. Kadri scored a goal in the Maple Leafs opening night 4-3 loss to the Montreal Canadiens. • The Anaheim Ducks and head coach Bruce Boudreau are considering Thursday’s 6-4 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins a wake-up call. The Ducks are expected to be one of the better teams in the West, something that puts a lot of pressure on the team to perform. In game two, the Ducks will concentrate on playing better defensively. • Devils head coach Pete DeBoer will face the Florida Panthers for the 11th time, since they fired him after the 2010-11 season. He is 6-3-1 during the regular season against Florida. The Devils and Panthers also met in the 2011 Stanley Cup Quarterfinals, with the Devils winning in seven games. [NHL.com]

• Tonight will be the final home opener for the New York Islanders at the Nassau Coliseum, the arena they have called home since 1972. [NHL.com]

• Just like last season, the Philadelphia Flyers are off to an 0-2-0 start. It was after a third loss that head coach Peter Laviolette was fired. This season, the Flyers are confident that a turnaround will come soon. However, tonight they face a Montreal Canadiens team that has started the season 2-0-0, and is looking for a third consecutive win to start the season, something they haven’t done since 2005-06. • Rick Nash‘s first game back in Columbus took place last season, on March 21st. What started out as a relatively quiet game turn into a wild affair, when Nash shoved Blue Jackets goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky. With so many players moving between the Rangers and the Blue Jackets over the past few seasons, a rivalry between the two teams is inevitable. [NHL.com]

• The Colorado Avalanche were outshot 48-16 in a 5-0 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday. As a result, Avalanche head coach Patrick Roy has shuffled all four lines up, hoping that that will make for a different, and better result. [NHL.com]

• The Los Angeles Kings travel to Arizona tonight, looking for both their first goal and first win of the season. The Coyotes are coming off a 6-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets in their season opener. [NHL.com]
