    • Mason Raymond scores hat trick in 2nd appearance with Flames – Mason Raymond was signed by the Flames during the off-season to provide a veteran offensive presence on a young team. Well, let’s hope the rest of the Flames roster was watching last night, because Raymond scored a hat trick in a 5-2 Flames win over the Edmonton Oilers. Raymond finished the 2013-14 season (with the Toronto Maple Leafs) with 19 goals and 45 points. [FanSided]
    • Buffalo Sabres fall in home opener to the Columbus Blue Jackets – The Columbus Blue Jackets may have been hurting, with Brandon Dubinsky, Boone Jenner, and Nathan Horton all out injured, but it didn’t reflect on the score board. The Sabres looked better than expected, but it was the goal post that kept the Jackets from scoring several times in the first period. The Sabres’ Girgensons scored a highlight reel goal, but the Blue Jackets also netted one of their own. Two more Jackets goals in the third put the game away. [Sabre Noise]
    • Tampa Bay Lightning win home opener 3-2 in OT – It took an overtime period, but the Tampa Bay Lightning won their home opener against the Florida Panthers, 3-2. Bolts By The Bay has a recap from the Lightning point-of-view, but it has to be stated that Roberto Luongo looked comfortable in net for the Panthers. It is already clear that this Panthers team will be better this season. [Bolts By The Bay]
    • Chicago Blackhawks escape Big D with 3-2 shootout win – The Chicago Blackhawks and the Dallas Stars took part in another close thriller last night, requiring a shootout to decide the outcome.     • New Jersey Devils outlast Flyers in a crazy game – The New Jersey Devils were cruising against the Flyers – they got out to an early 3-0 lead, but then the Devils gave up THREE goals in the final 4:16 of the second period. All of the chips were in place for the Devils to come out demoralized in the third, but Havlet / Zidlicky / Elias combined on a beautiful goal, that gave the Devils a 4-3 lead. That wouldn’t last long, as the Flyers would tie it up again. Zubrus scored what would be the final go-ahead goal for New Jersey and Cammalleri would add the empty netter to give the Devils an ugly win. [Pucks and Pitchforks]
