NHL News and Links - Quick Shifts: August 31st Edition

NHL Quick Shifts is a daily series where we gather up the latest NHL news and links from the FanSided NHL blogosphere, as well as other NHL / hockey blogs. So with that, here is today’s edition of Quick Shifts!

  • Columbus Blue Jackets to Johansen: We’ll Start Without You – The Columbus Blue Jackets have indicated that they are preparing to start camp and the 2014-15 season without Ryan Johansen in the lineup. Johansen and the Blue Jackets are currently in a tumultuous contract negotiation; the Blue Jackets looking to sign Johansen to a bridge contract and Johansen looking for a long term deal. [TMMOTS]
  • Mark-Andre Fleury To Have Best Season Yet For Pittsburgh Penguins – It’s a bold statement to make, but the guys over at Pens Labyrinth believe in Marc-Andre Fleury. Fleury finds himself in a contract season, so he will be trying to prove he should remain as the Penguins starter. Fleury did little to ease the doubts about his abilities in the 2014 post-season, so it would take a major turn around for Fleury to have a career season. [Pens Labyrinth]
  • EA Sports under fire for sexist selfies in NHL 15 – There are many intelligent female hockey fans, but EA Sports does not seem to believe so. Included in the latest edition of the game is a mock social media function where instagram photos from “fans” show up during the game play. The ones from female fans are of the usual “puck bunny” variety, leading many female fans to complain that EA Sports is being sexist and propagating a stereotype that female sports fans are just in it for the guys.
