- Maple Leafs hiring Extraskater.com founder, creating analytics department – If you feared that the Leafs hiring Kyle Dubas was simply the franchise trying to make it appear they were adopting advanced stats, it appears you can now rest easily. The Toronto Maple Leafs intend to create an entire analytics department, and also bring in Darryl Metcalf, founder of popular advanced stats site, Extraskater.com. Also included in the new department will be Cam Charron and Rob Pettapiece, who both worked for Yahoo sports. Unfortunately for hockey fans and bloggers (and other teams that used Metcalf’s data), Extraskater is going to cease operations; our loss is the Maple Leafs gain. [Puck Daddy]
