NHL Quick Shifts is a daily series where we gather up the latest NHL news and links from the FanSided NHL blogosphere, as well as other NHL / hockey blogs. So with that, here is today’s edition of Quick Shifts!
- Why Steven Stamkos to the Toronto Maple Leafs shouldn’t be an option – Ever since a certain basketball star made his homecoming announcement, there has been incessant talk (mostly from Toronto media) about Steven Stamkos doing the same when he hits free agency in 2016. I understand we have hit the point in the off season where we all are grasping at straws when it comes to hockey news, but this is ridiculous. If Stamkos is going to leave the Lightning, it is going to be to go play with a team that he feels has a better chance to win the Cup than Tampa. It is highly unlikely that that team will be the Toronto Maple Leafs. [TMMOTS]
- Calgary Hitmen bringing back classic pink jersey – You start to feel a little old when a jersey from 1995 is being considered a throwback. The Calgary Hitmen were named after co-founder Bret “The Hitman” Hart and when they made their WHL debut, they wore his signature pink and black color scheme. In 1998 the black and pink was traded in for the red and bronze they still wear today. In honor of their 20th season, the Hitmen will be wearing a jersey inspired by the jerseys they wore in 1995 for a few select games. [IceThetics]
- Toughest jobs in sports: Ice maker for the Arizona Coyotes – Yahoo has been doing a series on the toughest job in sports. For the fifth installment, they have selected the job of Ice Maker for the Arizona Coyotes. With temperatures reaching the triple digits during the playoffs, the ice crew has their work cut out for them in Arizona. Making the ice in the arena is the easy part; maintaining it once the doors are opened prior to the game starting becomes the hard part. [Yahoo Sports]
