Here we go again; Seattle is back in the news. It is being reported that Wayne Gretzky has joined a group of investors that are attempting to lure the NHL to Seattle. The question now becomes how soon will Gary Bettman expand the NHL?
It’s been a long running conversation among hockey fans. Should the NHL expand? It seems clear now that it most likely is going to happen. Having Wayne Gretzky as an owner instantlygives the Seattle team credibility, and that is something any new franchise needs. Seattle fit’s the rumored thought process of NHL expansion. Go West!

First thing first, Seattle still needs an arena, and without that or at least some construction on an arena the NHL is not likely to approve any new franchise in the Seattle area. As for the “Great One” this is his second attempt to buy or be part of a group attempting to buy a NHL team.

This news is only the beginning of a story that doesn’t seem to be going away. If the NHL is not ready for expansion, could relocation be on the table? That is unknown, but teams like the Florida Panthers and Arizona Coyotes need to keep on watch. If Seattle gains legs and pressure mounts the NHL is going to have some jumpy teams, and frustrated fans.
