Arizona Coyotes Made a Mistake, Again

The Phoenix Coyotes are dead and gone, and there is no rising from the ashes, they have been reborn as the Arizona Coyotes. But, it seems the poor business decisions haven’t stopped. It was announced that the Coyotes have brought former Buffalo Sabres GM (1997-2013) Darcy Regier on staff.

Regier has a reputation for being cheap, and somehow getting unexpected return for players at the deadline, but he also has a reputation for not being about to see through the clouds

that he creates. In this case he is only the Assistant GM, but if Coyotes fan think he is going to be a silent partner I believe they are wrong. Regier and his boss Don Maloney are long time “friends” they worked together in the 1990’s while with the New York Islanders.

It’s true that every person deserves a second chance but Sabres fans will tell you all about the mess he left behind in the Sabres organization. If the rebranding of the Coyotes is going to take hold, and improve things in the South West Maloney needs to make sure Regier doesn’t have too much player input. If things get too far out of hand we may end up watching this team pack their jerseys and head North of the Boarder.

Regier also has been known to over price his talent, with the Coyotes limited there, that shouldn’t be too big of an issue. However Arizona needs to be careful what they wish for. They are on thin ice, and cannot afford big stumbling block. The NHL seems to want team in better markets, and Arizona has not proved to be a hockey market.

One saving grace for Arizona Coyotes fan is being the Assistant GM means Darcy will be traveling more than hanging around toying with the roster.
