The draft is over, but there are still NHL Trade Rumors to talk about. One rumor that won’t go away is Jason Spezza to the Nashville Predators. Spezza has the Predators on his no-trade list, but it seems if he really wants out of Ottawa he may need to change his list.
It was reported during the NHL Draft that the Ottawa Senators has offers on the table for Spezza, but none of them had the return the Sens wanted. Nashville makes since; and in allreality it’s not a permanent move for Spezza, at least not yet. Becoming a member of the Predators and helping them establish the franchise as a contender would drive his stock up, and could land him some big money in future.
Senators GM Bryan Murray said after the NHL draft that he had a deal to send Spezza to the Predators Friday night, but the deal was scuttled because the Predators are on one of the 10 teams to which Spezza listed on his no-trade list. When asked whether his client would change his mind about going to Nashville, Spezza’s agent Rick Curran said, “I really can’t say one way or another. [The Hockey News]
For the Senators it would move a player that doesn’t want to be in Ottawa. Ottawa needs to make changes, and maybe this is best for all parties involved. There is no telling if Spezza will change his mind, but if he truly wants out of a Senators uniform before the 2014-2015 season starts he needs to suck it up and give Nashville a try.
It’s only one year, and if it works out well Spezza will cash in, and the Predators will have shown their fan base they are willing to roll the dice in an attempt to become a winning team.
