The NHL Draft is tomorrow, and rumors are starting to flow. One NHL Draft rumor I hear today is that the Vancouver Canucks may be trying to get to the number one spot in tomorrow’s draft. If that’s true, it seems like the Canucks have decided that a quick turnaround would be better than a rebuild. Vancouver has also been rumored to be talking to Ryan Miller‘s agent.
If Vancouver has hope of making a trade with the Florida Panthers to get the number one pick it is going to take a large number of assets. The only way I can see this happening is if the Canucks are able to move disgruntled forward Ryan Kesler. In return for Kesler the Canucks should be able to get a first round pick and NHL ready players. One team to be rumored to want Kesler is the Chicago Blackhawks. While keeping Kesler in the West may not be ideal, it could be a necessary evil if Vancouver is looking to make a move.
For Canucks fan even the fact that this rumor was floated out there should come as a relief. Couple this with the Ryan Miller possibly and Vancouver seems unlikely to allow a repeat of last season to happen again.
Like ever thing that comes out this time of year this rumor could very well be something leaked by the Panthers or Canucks in an attempt to drive up the price of any deals in the works. With that in mind I’ll ask you this; is it worth the price for the Canucks to try to move from six to one in this year’s NHL Draft?
* UPDATE* Ryan Kesler has been traded to the Anaheim Ducks. As stated in earlier, this may only be the first move the Canucks make. Look for them to make a run at the top pick. For more on the Trade click HERE.
