Advertisements are part of everyday life in sports, and with news breaking that the NBA may be making room for advertisements on their jerseys; the NHL may not be too far behind. Teams in Europe are already looking like skating yellow pages, and the NHL has increased advertising space, but how far is too far?
The NHL has put advertisements on the boards, on the ice, on the glass, and just about every other place you would look. If they add them to the jerseys I might just get sick. I now that Soccer leagues all around the wold do this, and NASCAR is well known for this, but they can keep it.
I’m a fan of a clean look. There is no real reason for the NHL or any league to do this. They are all making a ton of money as it is, and I understand more is better when it come to leagues and making money, but advertisements on jerseys is going to far. Just think you teams crest replaced by a Soft Drink company, or some random Garbage company. The logo at center ice gone, and all that is left of your beloved teams logo is a small shoulder patch. How would that make you feel?
If the NBA does go through with the change, they may have ruined sports in North America for ever. I hope the NHL sees the error in messing with jerseys. I can just picture it now the Toronto Maple Leafs crest is a Molson Canadian logo. Talk about flushing history down the drain.
