Los Angeles Kings @ New York Rangers 8:00 PM NBCSN [Series: LAK 3-0]

Noteable Noteables:

  • With a comfortable 3-0 lead over the New York Rangers, the Los Angeles Kings have a chance to complete the first Stanley Cup Final sweep since 1998. Despite the three game buffer, the Kings likely remember the last time they were up 3-0 in a Stanley Cup Final; 2012 against the New Jersey Devils. New Jersey ended up winning games four and five, but Los Angeles was able to close out the series in six. The Kings also likely remember that in the first round they too were staring down a 3-0 deficit against the San Jose Sharks. The Kings rallied back and eliminated the Sharks. Los Angeles also held a 3-1 lead over the Chicago Blackhawks in the Western Conference Final; that series took seven games to determine a winner. If the Kings cannot close out the series tonight, they give the New York Rangers a glimmer of hope. The Kings know first hand how quickly that can grow into a full scale come back situation.
  • The New York Rangers have said all of the right things in the aftermath of all three of their losses in the Stanley Cup Final. However, we have yet to see them back those words up on the ice. In Game 3, we saw the Rangers attempt the same zone entries, same power play set up, and the same strategy in the offensive zone. The creativity just isn’t there from New York and the Los Angeles Kings have them figured out. The Rangers seem to believe their struggles are due to poor “puck luck”, and while that may be true in some cases, the Kings have dominated play in this series, even when the score is close.
