In one month the Phoenix Coyotes will be re-born as the Arizona Coyotes; a minor change, but a big step to put the tumultuous ownership saga of the past few years behind them. Initially, it was believed that the Coyotes would trade Phoenix for Arizona for the start of the 2013-14 season, however it was deemed that there was not enough time to properly institute that change before the puck dropped on the new season.
This led some to believe that the Coyotes would be overhauling their entire identity. The Coyotes maintained that any changes would be minimal, and most likely a new shoulder patch would be introduced before the 2014-15 season.
Today, the Phoenix Coyotes gave fans an early glimpse at the new patch that will grace the jerseys of the Arizona Coyotes. As was expected, the changes are minor, with the PHX being simply substituted with AZ.

While Arizona Coyotes will take some time to get used to, the move to promote the team to the entire state of Arizona makes sense from a marketing standpoint. I am also relieved that the Coyotes decided to not overhaul their uniforms, as their current home and away set are perfect as is. Sure they are a bit plain, but they are the perfect representation of the desert, without actually putting a desert-scape on the jersey.
So rejoice fellow uniform and sports logos nerds, we have our first change for the 2014-15 season!
