Los Angeles Kings @ Chicago Blackhawks 8:00 PM NBCSN [Series: CHI 1-0]

Monday’s Results:

New York Rangers 3 Montreal Canadiens 1 [Series: NYR 2-0]

Noteable Noteables:

  • Despite winning Game 1 by a score of 3-1, the Los Angeles Kings did not make things easy for the Chicago Blackhawks. In the final minutes of the third, Los Angeles had 26 shots to Chicago’s 20, yet still trailed by two goals. It was a position that the Minnesota Wild found themselves in often in the second round. While the Kings attempted to sustain offensive pressure in the Blackhawks zone, they could not contain Chicago’s quick rush in the opposite end.
  • Corey Crawford‘s confidence has grown in net, but the Blackhawks defense still needs to be solid in front of the net minder. Los Angeles showed in Game 1 that they can generate offense, but they were unable to put the puck in the back of the net.
  • If the Blackhawks can win again tonight, it could prove history is repeating itself, as they went up 2-0 on the Kings in last year’s Western Conference Final. However, the Blackhawks are not giving too much thought to past history between the two teams. In regards to last season, Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews said:

Whether we have winning records against certain teams we play in the regular season and we get a chance to play them in the [Stanley Cup Playoffs], we have always done a good job of disregarding that past, because we know it doesn’t mean a whole heck of a lot.
