The Philadelphia Flyers will hold a press conference at 11:30 a.m. to announce several promotions in the front office. According to Frank Seravalli, Flyers beat writer for the Daily News, former Flyer and current Assistant General Manager Ron Hextall will become GM of the Flyers. Current GM, Paul Holmgren will be promoted to President.

Last week in a Q&A with NJ.com, Flyers chairman Ed Snider acknowledged that Hextall was specifically brought in to eventually become the next General Manager. A timeline for that change was not disclosed.
That’s why he was brought in. He didn’t come in to stay assistant GM forever, but that doesn’t mean tomorrow. But I’ve got to sit down with Paul.
After a disappointing first round exit in seven games to the New York Rangers, the Flyers have decided now is the time to make a change. However, with Holmgren being promoted to the role of President, it appears he will still have input on the decisions Hextall makes. While that may limit what Hextall can do, having a front office veteran watching over the rookie GM will make for an easier transition for Philadelphia.
This is Hextall’s first shot as an NHL GM. He served as an assistant GM with the Los Angeles Kings from 2006 until July of 2013. He also served as General Manager of the Kings AHL affiliate, the Manchester Monarchs.
