Noteable Noteables:

  • The New York Rangers dominated the Philadelphia Flyers in the first period, taking a 1-0 lead and outshooting them 16-6. The Flyers were able to regroup in the second and third period and ended up winning 2-1 to even the series up at two games apiece. The Rangers spent Saturday’s optional skate working on the power play, which went 0-4 in Friday’s game. Steve Mason earned his first playoff win on Friday in his first post-season start since 2009 (with Columbus). [NHL.com]
  • When the Blues took a 2-0 lead in the series, you had to feel that we hadn’t seen everything from the Chicago Blackhawks yet. This appears to be true, as since then Chicago has won three straight and the Blues must win tonight to avoid elimination. For St. Louis, the series is following a script errily similar to last year’s Quarterfinals with the Los Angeles Kings. The Blues got out to a 2-0 series lead and then allowed the Kings to win four straight. David Backes returned to the lineup for Game 5, but did not play as well as he usually does. Brent Seabrook will be back in the lineup for Chicago tonight after serving his three game suspension for his hit on Backes. [NHL.com]
  • The Anaheim Ducks have a chance to eliminate the Dallas Stars tonight, but they will have to do it on the road in Dallas, where they have so far struggled in the post-season. Anaheim faced a similar situation last playoffs where they were unable to close out the series with the Detroit Red Wings. Anaheim has been outstanding at home, most recently defeating the Stars 6-2, but the Ducks were outscored 7-2 in Games 3 and 4 in Dallas. The Stars need to control their emotions tonight, as the Ducks scored four times on the power play. The Stars power play was unable to get things going and went a miserable 0-7. [NHL.com]
