The 2014 Stanley Cup Playoffs are underway, and one of the biggest match-ups kicks off tonight. If you’re looking for Bruins tickets, make sure to check out Razorgator for available seats.

The last time Boston and Detroit faced off in the post-season was the 1957 Semifinals, which Boston would go on to win in 5 games.

The Boston Bruins finished this season by winning the Presidents trophy, which is rewarded to the team with the overall best record in the NHL. Detroit, however, wasn’t guaranteed a playoff spot until the last few games of the regular season. This won’t be a typical 1st seed vs. 8th seed match-up, though.

The Detroit Red Wings ended up winning this years’ regular season series between the two teams, defeating Boston 3 out of the 4 games.

On October 5th, 2013, Boston defeated the Detroit 4-1.

On October 14th, 2013, the Detroit defeated Boston 3-1.

On November 27th, 2013, Detroit defeated Boston 6-1.

On April 2nd, 2014, Detroit defeated Boston 3-2.

Boston and Detroit have a very similar style of hockey. Both are strong, heavy hitting teams that excel on the defensive aspects of things. Defense creates offense can be a motto to exemplify how these two teams play hockey.

Prediction: Boston Bruins defeat the Detroit Red Wings in 6 games.

Out of all the first round match-ups, this one is proving to be one of the hardest to predict an outcome for. As said before, both these teams play a very similar style of hockey, which is why this series could go either way. However, with red hot Jarome Iginla, who has excelled offensively this year, as well as a little help from elite goaltender Tuukka Rask, Boston should be able to defeat Detroit in a 7 game series.
