The NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs started last night, but one of the biggest match ups will start tonight. The Rangers will battle their long time rival Flyers for the right to continue the hunt for the Stanley Cup.
These two teams hate each other, and they don’t budge when playing one home ice. The Flyers have won three in a row at the Wells Fargo Center, and the Rangers have dominated at MSG winning eight in a row. If that holds true the advantage goes to the Rangers. However this series may come down to Skill vs. Power. The Flyers have a hard-hitting reputation, and the Rangers have some top-level scorers on their roster.
If the Flyers are going to come out on top their need to shut down the neutral zone, and not allow the rangers forwards to build up speed. If they are able close shorten the ice; they have a chance for the upset. Philadelphia had relied on Steve Mason to get them to the NHL Playoffs, but tonight they will be forced to start Ray Emery (2.57 GAA, .903 SV% in the Playoffs).
For the Rangers it’s going to be the complete opposite, they need to keep clear of the Flyers, and get them moving east and west. If they are able to spread them out Rick Nash, and Brad Richards can start to pick them apart. In net for the rangers will be “King” Henrik Lundqvist (2.28 GAA, .920 SV% in the Playoffs).
Prediction: Flyers in 6
The Rangers and Flyers are very evenly matched, but I think the Flyers will get some lucky bounces, and find a way to win the series.
