NHL Channel Surfing: March 28th Edition

Channel Surfing is Too Many Men On The Site’s quick guide to tonight’s NHL action, as well as any other interesting broadcasts in the world of hockey. Included is a list of the scheduled games, game notes, as well as a pregame warm up song.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Philadelphia Flyers 7:00 PM

Pittsburgh Penguins @ Columbus Blue Jackets 7:00 PM

Chicago Blackhawks @ Ottawa Senators 7:30 PM

Nashville Predators @ Dallas Stars 8:30 PM

New York Rangers @ Calgary Flames 9:00 PM

Anaheim Ducks @ Edmonton Oilers 9:30 PM

Noteable Noteables:

  • It’s becoming make or break time for the Toronto Maple Leafs. They have now lost six straight and are currently out of the Eastern Conference playoffs. A win against the Flyers could start them on the path to recovery. However, the Flyers come into tonight’s game after losing two in a row after five straight wins. Despite being third in the Metropolitan Division, every point counts in the tight race and the Flyers themselves can fall down the standings if they enter a slump.
  • It seems like every time the Columbus Blue Jackets are in action lately, it is against a big rival opponent. First there was the big Rick Nash homecoming game, and then on Tuesday night they got a big win over the Detroit Red Wings. Tonight, they welcome the Metropolitan Division leading Pittsburgh Penguins to Nationwide Arena. With a win and a little help from the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Jackets can bring themselves within a point of the Philadelphia Flyers, while maintaining the tie breaker over the Leafs.
  • The New York Rangers open a four game road trip on a five game winning streak. However, tonight’s game puts them up against the Calgary Flames, who despite being out of the playoff picture for awhile now, has enjoyed playing spoiler against some of the NHL’s better teams. They hope to catch the Rangers thinking about the games ahead and get an upset win.
  • The Anaheim Ducks have three games in hand on the Pacific Division leading San Jose Sharks, and coincidentally, they have three games in the next ten days against the Edmonton Oilers. Sure, Edmonton could play spoiler, but things are looking good for Anaheim right now.
