There is really only one spot up for grabs in the Western Conference; the final wild card. The Coyotes currently hold that spot, but many teams are close behind.

Almost Safe Teams: Los Angeles Kings, Minnesota Wild, Colorado Avalanche
Out of Contention: Edmonton Oilers, Calgary Flames, Nashville Predators

Sitting quite uncomfortably in that last wild card spot, the Coyotes have a slim 2 point lead, with one less game in hand from the Stars. Their roster doesn’t overwhelm you, but they have found ways to win (similar to the Toronto Maple Leafs) in many different ways.
They lost their playoff spot to the Coyotes last week, but they have a game in hand. The Stars have lost two in a row and need to win fast. Maybe once the team recovers from the shock of the Rich Peverley incident they will be able to focus better.
Although we all know the Canucks season fell off a cliff starting in January of this year, there is still a slight hope that they can make the playoffs. Sitting three points back, but with three less games in hand, from Phoenix, the team still has some skill and leadership to make a late push.
It is a longshot, but the Jets are still only 4 points back from the Yotes, though they have played 2 more games. Ever since Paul Maurice started to give the team new life, fans are now getting optimism that the team has a chance of making the playoffs for the first time since relocating.
