The Buffalo Sabres have been a mess this season. They have had a complete front office change, and the on ice product is the worst in the NHL. But, it seems they are happy with Interim Head Coach Ted Nolan. Multiple media outlets have reported that Nolan and the Sabres are in the final stages of a three-year extension.
Ted Nolan’s three-year contract extension with BUF in hands of lawyers. Contract language still being finalized. Not “done” quite yet.

While Nolan’s record this season is not much of an improvement; the team has shown they are willing to work for Nolan. So far this season the Sabres are 15-26-7 with Nolan behind the bench. It seems that if the report is correct Nolan will be the man in charge of turning this young team into a playoff contender. For Nolan this is truly coming full-circle. He was the Head Coach of the Sabres from 1995-1997.
Currently the Sabres are sitting in last place in the NHL, with little hope of moving out of the basement. I think having Nolan behind the bench is a two-fold move by the Sabres. The fans in Buffalo love they guy, and there are some players on the current roster that love playing for him. Moving into the future, Nolan will become the hero or the goat. But, for the time being the Buffalo Sabres have a coach that will not tolerate players taking nights off.
