- Despite having the fewest points in the Western Conference, the Edmonton Oilers have been playing good lately. They are 5-3-2 in their last ten games. Tonight they face the best team in the NHL, the St. Louis Blues who have won seven of their last ten games. [ NHL.com ]
- The New York Rangers come into tonight’s game against the Wild following a 3-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes. Every game counts at this point, but division losses are costly. The Rangers are in second in the Metro, but only one point separates them from the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Philadelphia Flyers.
- With a win over the Sharks and a little help from the Wild, the Blue Jackets could jump into second place in the Metropolitan Division. They are currently tied with the Flyers for third, but hold the tiebreaker. [ NHL.com ]
- The Hurricanes have had a rough stretch since returning from the Olympic Break, losing six of eight games. Tuesday’s win over the Rangers provided a boost, and now they look to get back in the playoff picture against the Buffalo Sabres. Buffalo is on a three game losing streak. [ NHL.com ]
Tonight I will give the honors to the Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay Lightning match up. A close runner up is the Columbus Blue Jackets and the San Jose Sharks.
