BREAKING NEWS: Ryan Miller / Ott to Blues for Halak / Stewart / Carrier / Picks

Miller watch reached a fever pitch in the last hour, as both Ryan Miller and Steve Ott were scratched from tonight’s Sabres game. Then the big news dropped that both had been traded.

Ryan Miller and Steve Ott have been traded to the Blues and Jaroslav Halak, Chris Stewart, William Carrier, and two picks will go to Buffalo in return.

It is reported that the picks are the 2015 St. Louis first rounder and the 2016 third rounder.

Whether this is the only move or a smaller part of a bigger trade remains to be seen. TSN’s Bob McKenzie tweeted out one trade scenario he had heard passed around over the last few days:

As of right now the Ottawa portion of this trade is pure speculation, but it is worth watching. McKenzie stated that Ottawa is interested in acquiring Christ Stewart. It is also possible that Buffalo will try to flip Halak and Stewart for more picks:

In one fell swoop the St. Louis Blues have become a legitimate contender, if not Stanley Cup favorite. Ryan Miller will provide them with the solid goaltending they will need to go on a run. Steve Ott will provide a physical / offensive threat.

On the Sabres end of things, Buffalo gets a solid goaltender (albeit one who has faltered in St. Louis), as well as a young forward in Chris Stewart. The two draft picks will likely be late round picks, but those will play an important role in the Sabres rebuild.
