Suspension Hearing for Joffrey Lupul

The Winter Classic didn’t stop poor hits from happening. Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul will have a suspension hearing for his hit on Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves.

Lupul delivered a cross-check that landed around the neck/head of Eaves. A minor penalty was called, Eaves was unable to return to the game. Eaves suffered no broken bones, and was evaluated for a possible concussion. In the NHL.com Player Safety report the NHL has said that “The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: cross-checking.” NHL.com

Joffrey Lupul has already been suspended for two games this year for an illegal hit to the head of Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Victor Hedman.  The Toronto Maple Leafs have already had 5 players suspended this season, David Clarkson (twice), Dion Phaneuf, Carter Ashton, Nazem Kadri and Phil Kessel.

I’d guess Lupul gets around 5 games for this, but it is the NHL so who knows. I’ve said it before players are not learning, some will get seriously hurt if something is not done.

How many games should Lupul get for this hit? Let us know what you think in the comment section.
