Chicago Blackhawks Get Corey Crawford Back

The Chicago Blackhawks don’t need the help, but they are going to get it. Corey Crawford will be back on the ice tonight. The Blackhawks will take on the New York Islander in what may be a tune up game. The Blackhawks are the second best team in the NHL, and the Islanders are third worst. This is the perfect game to ease Crawford back into the starting role.

Crawford has missed the past ten games with a lower-body injury. The Blackhawks have not had any issues without their starting net-minder. In Crawford’s absence rookie Antti Raanta has been nothing short of incredible. Raanta has gone 10-1-3 this season. Putting up a 2.21 goals-against average, and a .913 save percentage. Crawford has had a nice year in his own right; playing in 27 games and putting up solid numbers as well (17-6-3, 2.27 GAA, .904 SV %).

It’s not often that NHL teams have a backup goalie controversy, but the Blackhawks front office has some thinking to do. Our partner site BlackhawkUp had this to say.

The real question is what the Hawks will do with Raanta come Saturday, since the Hawks are carrying 3 goals to New York for the back to back game between the Islanders and Devils.

With Crawford back and assuming there are no lingering issues; it seems that Chicago is primed to continue their run at repeating as Stanley Cup Champions.
