It’s Saturday December 14, 2013 and here is today’s version of QUICK SHIFTS:
While there isn’t a full slate of games in the National Hockey League on this Saturday, there is still plenty of action to take in. It looks like some of the key games are happening out west. The Eastern Conference leading Boston Bruins go into Vancouver to face a surging Canucks team. The Canucks have won six games in a row and look to extend that streak tonight. For Boston, today marks the first time the Bruins have been back to Vancouver since they won game seven of the 2011 Stanley Cup Final. The Bruins come in on a modest four game streak of their own.
Another key game matches the Minnesota Wild against the Colorado Avalanche as both teams look to get back to winning. The Wild have been in a downspin over their last 10 games going 3-6-1. The Avalanche are also trying to “right their ship” as they avoided a three game losing streak when they defeated the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday.
How bout a quick injury update. Remember when Steven Stamkos broke his leg in Boston a little over a month ago. At that time, doctors projected a four to six month recovery period. The chance of Stamkos playing in the upcoming Olympic games were all but thrown out. Today, video surfaced of Stamkos skating for the first time since breaking his leg. Check out the video here.
It is almost the end of another week in Fantasy Hockey. Check out this article from Yahoo Sports as Mike Finewax helps breakdown the upcoming week and which players you should be focusing on to start in your lineup.
Here is an interesting read from Dave Lozo at Bleacher report. He looks at all thirty NHL teams and the biggest surprise from each team.
