Today is Tuesday December 10, 2013. Over the past few days the league has been littered with a lot of negative news. From the James Neal knee on Brad Marchand. The Shawn Thornton attack on Brooks Orpik and the hit from behind by Dion Phaneuf on Kevan Miller. The first suspension has been handed down, let’s take a look at that and the other happenings in our daily tour around the league. Here is today’s Quick Shifts.
Brendan Shanahan from the National Hockey League Department of Player Safety issued his ruling and explained his findings. Check out the video of his breakdown here (thanks nhl.com):
The above video is just one instance of some nasty hits that have occurred this year in the NHL. Check out Jonathan Willis at Bleacher Report as he prepared a slideshow ranking what he thinks are the top ten dirtiest hits of the 2013-2014 season and gives his take on what makes each hit so dirty
The events on Saturday night have again brought to the forefront the idea of “The Code” and players policing themselves. Ryan Lambert at Puck Daddy examines the Shawn Thornton incident and the role of or lack of the role “The Code” played, check out what he has to say here.
Here is a little something for the fans of the Buffalo Sabres, New York Islanders and Florida Panthers. For fans of these teams it can never be to early to check out who the top prospects are for the upcoming draft. Yes, I know it isn’t till June of next year, but hey why not just take a quick glimpse at some of the talent that maybe on its way to help your club. Craig Button at TSN takes a look at the early ranks which he says are dominated by centers and wingers.
I will preface this next link by saying: If you are not a fan of blood and ugly injury, don’t look…….but come on aren’t you just a bit curious. Click here to see what I’m talking about.
Come back tomorrow for more Quick Shifts!
