The Philadelphia Flyers will be without Vincent Lecavalier for the next 3-4 weeks. Lecavalier has already missed a week, but do to a non-displaced fracture in his lower back he will miss a lot more time.
“He had an X-ray in Dallas and they found something on the X-ray that didn’t look right, so we flew him back to Philadelphia [on Sunday] to get him into our own doctors’ hands,” Holmgren said. “He had an MRI done and they found a non-displaced fracture in his lower back.” NHL.com
The Flyers were hoping that Lecavalier would add some offense and leadership to their roster, however this is the second time this season that the veteran as been sidelined for an extended period of time. Lecavalier missed two weeks in October. This recent injury is a big blow to an already struggling Flyers team. The Flyers are among the NHL’s worst scoring teams. They rank 29th out of the 30 teams in the NHL averaging 2.17 goal per game. ( Lecavalier has played in 22 games and is tied for the team lead in goals with 9.)
The Flyers are 2-5-0 when Lecavalier is not in the lineup. Vincent Lecavalier is 33-years-old. Is this season’s injury problem simply bad luck or a case of one the NHL’s brightest stars burning out?
