This week’s Underdog of the Week comes from the Dallas Stars. This player has been great in his three games this past week. Ryan Garbutt is a left winger for Dallas and has been a big help for the team this year. Here is a little bit about the Underdog of this week.
Ryan Garbutt, 28, is in his third season with the Dallas Stars. This season, he has managed to score five goals and two assists in 20 games this season. This week he recorded three goals and two assists in just three games. In his first game this week, he helped the Stars defeat the Anaheim Ducks in Dallas. Not only did he record two assists, but his goal was the game winner for the game. After being down 2-1 at the end of two, he and the Stars rallied five third period goals to beat the Ducks 6-3.
His second game this week was a bit dry. They hosted Chicago, but Garbutt couldn’t get on the scoreboard. He finished the game with a -1 rating as the Stars lost in a shootout. The shootout went to 11 rounds, with Garbutt shooting and missing his shot as the eighth shooter.
The final game this week was against the Edmonton Oilers. Ilya Bryzgalov started in net, but he couldn’t stop Garbutt from scoring. After a scoreless first period, Garbutt notched a short-handed goal to take the lead in the game. While on a breakaway, looking for his second goal, Garbutt collided with Bryzgalov near the end of the second period as he stopped Garbutt’s attempt. With Devan Dubnyk replacing Bryz, Garbutt scored another goal to make it two goals and a 2-1 lead. Even though he helped lead the team, they lost it in a shootout, thanks to goals from both Jordan Eberle and David Perron. Garbutt was named first star of the game.
Garbutt has had a quiet career, but this week was his, and he will be looking to continue his streak of great play. Ryan Garbutt is this week’s Underdog of the Week. Make sure to check in next week to see the next Underdog of the Week.
