Here are your NHL trade rumors for December 1:
According to Bruce Garrioch there hasn’t been much interest from teams regarding Erat. The Washington Capitals would be best to look at teams that have a good amount of cap space like the New York Islanders, Florida Panthers, and Buffalo Sabres. As far as specifics go Chuck Gormley believes the Caps should be looking for a defenseman in exchange for Erat. The Vancouver Canucks may have interest and Dan Hamhuis would be a good fit for the Caps. Some other options Gormley brought up were Dmitry Kulikov, Michael Del Zotto, Andrej Meszaros, Luke Schenn, Nikita Nikitin, Alex Martinez, Francois Bouillon, and Paul Ranger.
Steve Simmons believes that the combination of Gardiner and Randy Carlyle is doomed for failure. He also said that Dave Nonis is not ready to make a decision on whether to keep Gardiner or not yet because too many teams have made the mistake of deciding on young defensemen too soon. In my opinion Simmons is wrong about Gardiner. Jake is an incredible talent and it would be a huge mistake to trade him. I don’t think the Toronto Maple Leafs need a trade right now at all let alone one that would send away one of their most talented defensemen.
The Colorado Avalanche have been shopping around for defensemen and apparently Jamie McGinn is on the block. According to Bruce Garrioch McGinn is in Patrick Roy‘s dog house which is causing the Avs to shop him. McGinn could go closer to the deadline as a rental player as he will be a RFA at the end of the season.
Bryan Murray has been on the prowl for a defenseman according to Bruce Garrioch. Garrioch also said that Murray is looking for someone to play alongside Jason Spezza and for that spot he’s been looking at Matt Frattin of the Los Angeles Kings.
