It seems like so long ago but it has only been 6 months since Daniel Alfredsson shocked the hockey world and signed with Detroit Red Wings instead of the team he had spent his entire NHL career with, the Ottawa Senators. Tonight is the moment every Senators fan has been waiting for since July 5. That’s right folks tonight Daniel Alfredsson returns to Ottawa.

I can see this going one of two ways for Alfie. The first possibility is the fans’ love for Alfie over throws there possible feelings of betrayal and he gets a standing ovation in his old building. The other thing that may happen is that the fans feel totally betrayed by Alfie and boo him. Let’s face it Ottawa fans like to boo, either outcome is entirely possible.

No matter how the crowd reacts his former team mates will applaud him and show him the respect he deserves. As captain the Senators looked up to Alfie and he really was beloved in Ottawa. Whatever direction this goes it will be very emotional for everyone in the building. After practice Alfredsson said this to the CBC:

“Obviously coming back to Ottawa, playing the first game, I’m sure will be emotional,” Alfredsson said after practice.

“I’m not sure how I will react but I think it will be a special night.”

What do you think? How will the crowd react? Will Alfie score? Will the Senators new captain, Jason Spezza, score? Who will win? Share your thoughts in the comment box below, on facebook, or on twittter.
