Pekka Rinne Injury Update

Pekka Rinne‘s injury has been diagnosed as an E. coli infection in his hip. This infection will keep him out of the Nashville Predators line up for 6-8 weeks. A week ago we were alerted to the seriousness of the injury when Rinne spoke to a Finnish magazine about the infection. He had arthoscopic surgery on his hip on October 24 to clear out the infection.

His last game with the Preds was on October 22 and since he left they have been 2-1-1. Based on the numbers so far  it looks like the Preds might be able to deal with the loss of their starting goalie for an extended period of time. Today the Preds reassigned goaltender Magnus Hellberg to their AHL affiliate and recalled Marek Mazanec basically switching back-ups for Carter Hutton. This means that Mazanec may possibly see a start during the Preds current road trip. The Predators next game is tomorrow in Colorado.
