Patrick Kaleta‘s 10 game suspension for his hit on Columbus Blue Jackets defenseman Jack Johnson has been completed however according to John Vogl Kaleta was not on ice for the Buffalo Sabres optional skate today and was not even in the building leaving the suspicion was that he would be a healthy scratch tonight. The news recently broke that in fact Kaleta has been placed on waivers.
Kaleta has two years left on his contract at 2.5 million. If he is unclaimed $325, 000 of his salary will remain towards the Sabres cap hit. At this point there are a couple of teams that could possibly pick him up that need tough guys but it is unclear as to whether they would be interested in a player with multiple suspensions under his belt, especially since the last one was so long.
