The scorer of the Stanley Cup winning goal will not be attending the Chicago Blackhawks visit to the White House. Dave Bolland has been invited to the event but has declined the invitation. No fear Bolland fans, it is not because of some political statement like Tim Thomas, Bolland is Canadian. Here is what Bolland said about choosing not to attend.
“It’s flattering, but I’m a Toronto Maple Leaf now,” Bolland told the Toronto Sun. “Besides, I’ve already been there once.
“It’s a nice gesture but I’m not going to go. I hope the boys have fun.”
Bolland was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in the offseason and has been lighting it up scoring 6 goals already this season for the Leafs. Bolland has attended a White House visit once before when the Hawks won the Cup in 2010.
I think the move is admirable. He is showing solidarity to his current team and not really missing out on anything since he has been there before.
