The NHL has released its three stars for the past week of play. Steven Stamkos of the Tampa Bay Lightning was honored with the first star of the week, while Phil Kessel of the Toronto Maple Leafs was awarded second star, and Ryan Kesler of the Vancouver Canucks was given third star honors.
Stamkos had the kind of week we all expect him to have every week. In three games, Stamkos scored three goals, and added four assists in a trio of Tampa Bay victories. The Lightning have been winning games this season, and their offense has been a huge part of that. Stamkos continues to be one of the league’s most gifted scorers, and continues to play well along side one of the league’s best playmakers in Martin St. Louis. Stamkos now has eight goals and nine assists in 11 games this season.
The second start of the week went to the big money lumberjack, Phil Kessel in Toronto. Kessel scored five goals this last week in 3 games, including a hat trick in the Maple Leafs’ victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Kessel scored in all three games this week, and recorded an assist as well against the Penguins on Saturday night. Kessel now has seven goals and seven assists on the season for the Leafs, and is 11th in the NHL with 46 shots on goal so far this season.
Ryan Kesler was awarded the third star of the week by the NHL after getting hot after a rather slow start to his season. Kesler scored two goals in the win over the St. Louis Blues, and tallied a single goal against the New Jersey Devils and the New York Islanders. Kessel got hot at the right time, scoring four goals and adding two assists in three games. Kessel accounted for six points on eleven Vancouver goals this week.
