Kyle Clifford Fined for Knee on Knee

Kyle Clifford of the Los Angeles Kings has been fined $2756.41 for his knee on knee hit on Ryan Nugent-Hopkins during Friday’s game against the Edmonton Oilers. Clifford attepted to hit Nugent-Hopkins along the boards but ended up colliding with his knee. RNH did a full somersault before lying prone on the ice for several minutes. Nugent-Hopkins was able to finish the game.

With all the head shots going around lately we often forget about the knee on knee hits which are just as dangerous. Although a knee injury is not seen as severe as a head injury each can have equally detrimental long-term effects on a player’s career. Ultimately the question is: Should Clifford have been suspended? In my opinion the fine is fair but what do you think?
