The Toronto Maple Leafs have blasted out of the gate this season with a 5-1-0 record. They are currently sitting a top the Atlantic division and the eastern conference but their last win against the Edmonton Oilers makes me worry slightly about how long this winning will last. The final score was 6-5 in overtime which says something about how their defense is working.
The Leafs defensive core consists of Dion Phaneuf, Jake Gardiner, Paul Ranger, Cody Franson, Carl Gunnarsson, and Morgan Rielly. All carry their merits but all also have their downfalls. Dion, in my opinion, is only good for one great play a game before he decides to stop working hard ( he has been getting better though). Jake is an offensive defenceman but he does seem to have a good sense of when to skate with the puck and when to stay home. Rielly is young and inexperienced in the NHL and Franson, Ranger, and Gunnarsson have been average.
Though most Leaf fans are planning the parade on the outside, inside a lot of us are still a little skeptical as to how long the dream will last before we wake up again. We have been burned many times before and each year it’s getting a little harder to get our hopes up. How about you? Are you planning the parade or are you still skeptical?
