The Sharks may have ran the Rangers out of the building last night on their way to a 9-2 win, and Tomas Hertl may have scored four goals (and we all know how awesome that last one was, right?), but let’s not let that overshadow the major loss the Rangers took in the first period.
Rick Nash was hit high by Sharks defenseman, Brad Stuart. Stuart was given a two minute minor for elbowing on the play, but it was an apparent shot to the head. Head shots as we know, are subject to hearings, and usually suspensions. Unfortunately for Stuart, the NHL announced Wednesday that they plan to have a hearing over the hit.
The hit was high, and we definitely to the head, but it looked to be more of a shoulder than an elbow. Nash looked fairly uncomfortable after the blow, but he finished out the rest of the period. Nash didn’t return to the game after the second, and when asked after the game, Nash had this to say:
I have a headache. It got worse. It was a head shot, I’m concerned the way it feels. You’re concerned anytime there’s a head shot.
Stuart is likely to get a call from every player’s good old friend, Brendan Shanahan within the next day or two. He’s likely to be at least fined, if not suspended for a game or two. Here’s a video of the hit. Step into Shanny’s shoes for the moment, and let us know if you think he deserves a suspension. Keep in mind, he isn’t a repeat offender (unless you’re infatuated with Gabriel Landeskog, and had a teenage heart attack when Stuart hit him (it was a clean hit))
