According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Phil Kessel is close to extending with the Toronto Maple Leafs for the NHL’s max, 8-year contract. The deal is worth approximately $64 million.
Kessel didn’t want to negotiate during the season, so the Leafs are trying to lock him up before it even starts tonight in Montreal.
Dreger expects the announcement to come this morning. Follow @tmmots closely for any updates throughout the morning.
